Bio

Dr Mikhail Filatov obtained his PhD degree in organic chemistry in 2008 from Moscow State University. During his time in Moscow he also took part in the development of a university spin-off company producing of a natural phytohormone, which is currently being applied for plant protection in agriculture.

Mikhail conducted postdoctoral research in University of Burgundy and at the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research where he was involved in synthesis and studies of photoactive materials for photonic applications. He also took part in several industry-academia cooperations, including working with SONY on innovative solar cell devices.

In 2015, Mikhail was awarded a Marie Curie Fellowship enabling him to undertake a research project at Trinity College Dublin and develop a new approach towards generation of singlet oxygen for photomedical therapies.

His research combines organic chemistry and photophysics and is targeted on the development of new materials with programmed optical properties. Current projects are focused on

(i) Synthesis of multichromophoric molecules.

(ii) Generation and sensing of reactive oxygen species.

(iii) Photoinduced electron transfer and intersystem crossing in donor-acceptor dyads.
