Students of Optometry and Ophthalmic Dispensing Travel to Kolkata, India with a Team from Specsavers Ireland
Students from TU871 Optometry and TU761 Ophthalmic Dispensing programmes recently travelled to Kolkata, India with a team from Specsavers Ireland. There they worked with HOPE hospital to give glasses to individuals in street and slum communities through community-based camps. In one week, 1300 pairs of glasses were dispensed to adults and children who typically have no access to affordable or quality healthcare. The students Oisín Casey, Abby Gorman, Isabella Healy, and Omima Mukassabi, along with their lecturer Dr. Catriona Barrett also fundraised a total of €9930 which they donated to the Hope foundation to support their Blindness Eradication Programme.
