Background

Dr. Swarna Jaiswal is a Lecturer in Applied Microbiology at TU Dublin-City Campus, Ireland. She obtained a Biotechnology (Hon’s) from B. R. Ambedkar Bihar University, India in 2005 and received a Master’s in Biotechnology from Bangalore University, India in 2007, followed by PhD awarded in 2012 by Technological University Dublin, Ireland. Upon completion of PhD she has worked as a research scientist at Enterprise Ireland Technology Gateway, Centre for Research in Engineering and Surface Technology (CREST), TU Dublin, for 5 years. She has also completed an executive MBA from TU Dublin in 2015. Before joining TU Dublin as an academics, she has worked as a Plant microbiologist at Abbott Nutrition, Ireland.

Dr. Jaiswal has associated with more than 20 commercial and academic projects in the field of biodegradable active packaging film, antimicrobial coating, and biomaterials, multifunctional coatings for biodegradable medical devices. She has been working with numerous SME’s and MNC’s in Ireland and UK and providing research consultancy service.

Research Interests

• Hygiene coatings for various surfaces including glass, metals.
• Biodegradable active/intelligent food packaging film development.
• Development and investigation of functional properties of encapsulated antimicrobial agents.
• Multifunctional bioabsorbable material development for biomedical devices (i.e Mg plates).
• Biocompatible surface functionalisation of the metals (i.e. Titanium).
