BackgroundShiv Shankar, PhD, is an Assistant Lecturer at the School of Food Science and Environmental Health, Technological University Dublin, City Campus, Dublin, Ireland. Dr. Shankar completed his Bachelor's degree in Agriculture in 2001 from Banaras Hindu University, India and Master’s degree in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology from Indian Agricultural Research Institute, India in 2003. In 2011, he was awarded a PhD in Biotechnology from National Chemical Laboratory, University of Pune, India. After that, he worked as a postdoctoral fellow at RMIT University, Australia, Prince of Songkla University, Thailand and as a Research Professor at Mokpo National University, South Korea, and Kyung Hee University, South Korea. Before joining TU Dublin-City Campus, Dr. Shankar worked as a Research associate at INRS-Armand Frappier Health and Biotechnology Centre, Canada, and University of Guelph, Canada for five years. Dr. Shankar's current research aims to develop antimicrobial formulation of natural extracts and antimicrobial nanoparticles for food preservation, food packaging and biomedical applications. He is also working in the field of waste valorization, engineering biodegradable and compostable flexible and rigid materials for sustainable packaging, and irradiation systems for food preservation.Research Interests
