Prof Normand Voyer Explores Natural Plant Research at School Visit

On Tuesday, 18 March 2025, the School of Food Science and Environmental Health was delighted to welcome Professor Normand Voyer from Université Laval, Canada, for a special visit organised by Dr Tao Zhang.

Professor Voyer, a leading expert in bioorganic chemistry and Director of the Centre for Northern Studies at Université Laval, delivered an engaging talk titled “Molecular Treasures from the North” to students and staff. He shared fascinating insights into the natural products of Northern ecosystems, highlighting how plants, lichens, and microorganisms have evolved to produce unique bioactive compounds with potential applications in future medicines.

A highly accomplished scientist, Professor Voyer has published extensively in prestigious journals, with his work widely cited and recognised globally. He has also been a guest speaker at over 125 forums and institutions across America and Europe. Beyond his research, Professor Voyer is a passionate advocate for science communication, particularly among young people. His popular lecture, La chimie de l'amour/The Chemistry of Love, has been presented 379 times to over 70,000 attendees across Quebec.
