Food Sensory Pleasures - The Science of Taste

Published: 10 May, 2023

As part of TU Dublin’s Revealing Grangegorman series of events the School of Food Science and Environmental Health hosted "'Food Sensory Pleasures - The Science of Taste" led by Dr. Lubna Ahmed on Thursday 1st of June 2013 from 10 to 12 pm in the Food Processing Hall.

The event attracted a diverse public audience of all ages from school children and teenagers, parents, school teachers, food industry professionals and TU Dublin staff from different schools.

Participants explored the relationship between our senses and the perception of food in a fun way. Through a range of activities, participants had the opportunity to practise their senses of sight, smell, taste, and touch. They sampled various food products and food ingredients and were challenged to identify them based on their texture and aroma. Furthermore, they compared artificial and natural food flavourings, by performing basic sensory taste trials to understand how the senses can influence our preference of food. The participants also could learn about the programs of the school and the facilities in the Food Processing Hall.
