Chinese Baijiu Manufacturers' Delegation Visits TU Dublin
On Monday, 08 July, the School of Food Science and Environmental Health was delighted to welcome a distinguished delegation of Chinese Baijiu manufacturers. Led by Prof Deliang Wang from the International Joint Research Center of Quality and Safety of Alcoholic Beverages, the delegation included representatives from premier Baijiu producers in China: Luzhou Laojiao, Kweichow Moutai, Wuliangye Yibin, Jiangsu Yanghe Brewery Joint-Stock, and Shanxi Xinghuacun Fen Wine. The visit aimed to explore potential partnerships between the School of Food Science and Environmental Health and the Chinese Baijiu industry, focusing on joint education programmes (both undergraduate and postgraduate), research collaboration, and industry-supported research in brewing and distilling.
The School Executive Team (Dr Julie Dunne, Prof Christine O’Connor and Dr Gemma Kinsella), along with academic staff members Dr Graham O’Neil and Dr Azza Silotry Naik, introduced the delegation to our programme portfolios, models, and research profiles. Prof O’Connor, Dr Naik, postgraduate students Chioke Okolo and Ekene Umego, along with undergraduate students Sinead Gibney and James Brady, presented their research projects to the visitors. The delegation also toured our state-of-the-art facilities, including the Brewing & Distilling lab and our analytical suite. This visit was coordinated by our colleague Dr Tao Zhang, and it marks another step towards fostering international collaboration and enhancing our research and educational initiatives in the field of brewing and distilling.
