ChemisTRY Camps - 9th to 11th May 2022
The TU Dublin School of Food Science and Environmental Health hosted TY and 5th year students from across the country for three ChemisTRY camps sponsored by the Royal Society of Chemistry, outreach fund. The funding application was led by Dr Gemma Kinsella, Assistant Head of School of Food Science and Environmental Health and members of the School Public Engagement and Recruitment committee. Each camp was designed to give the students hands on laboratory experience, insight into the degree programmes in the school and showcase our state of the art facilities in the Central Quad, Grangegorman.
On the 9th May “A day in the life of a Food Scientist” led by Dr Graham O’Neill and Dr Orla Cahill explored a variety of food chemistry and microbiology experiments
On the 10th May, Dr Tao Zhang led the “A Day in the Life of a Pharmaceutical/Nutraceutical Chemist” where participants synthesised and analysed aspirin.
The 11th May camp led by Sara Boyd focused on Environmental and Public Health and examined air and water quality.
