Brewing & Distilling Showcase
Our Brewing and Distilling showcase took place on Fri 26th May sponsored by the TU Dublin Enterprise Academy. Thomas Stone (VP of Partnerships in TU Dublin) spoke on the importance of industry academic collaborations, while Dr Julie Dunne (Head of School) gave an overview of the development of the brewing and distilling programmes in TU Dublin.
The panel discussion with Steve Gilesnan (Global Head of Quality Diageo), Marie Byrne (Operations Director, Church of Oak Distillery) and Prof. Christine O’Connor (Head of Discipline, TU Dublin), focused on skills and training needs in the drinks sector – and was moderated by Will Keating (Lecturer TU Dublin & Consultant).This was followed by series of laboratory tours (courtesy of Dr. Graham O’Neill, Dr. Catherine Barry Ryan and Will Keating), beer and cocktail tasting at the Arthur Guinness Training Bar with Judith Boyle (Lecturer TU Dublin & International Beer/Spirits judge); and was complemented with whiskey tasting with Stuart McNamara.In addition the winners of student prizes from our inaugural class of PgCert in Brewing and Distilling included:The Church of Oak Technical Excellence Award: Darragh SmythThe Enterprise Academy Entrepreneurship Award: Stuart McNamaraThe Enterprise Academy Innovation Award: Paul MacGabhann
