Award at the 2024 Institute of Food Technologist Conference

Maame Ekua Manful received the 2nd place Award in the Toxicology & Safety Evaluation Division Graduate Student Oral Competition at the 2024 Institute of Food Technologist (IFT) FIRST Conference in Chicago, USA.

The study titled “Safety and in vitro genotoxic potential of valorised partially defatted almond press cake powder for food ingredient applications,” was among 100 semi-finalists in the IFT Division and advanced to the finalist round with an oral presentation securing 2nd place.

The 2024 IFT FIRST Conference was held in Chicago from 13th to 17th July under the theme “Collaboration + Innovation: How Can Food Science and Technology Transform the Food System” with Scientific and Technical Forums and presentations in five areas:  Novel Technology and Innovation, Sustainability & Climate, Health and Nutrition, Food Safety and Consumer Insights and Education. There were over 500 poster presentations, 100 science sessions, and 1000 exhibitors from the food industry.

Maame is supervised by Dr. Catherine Barry-Ryan and Dr. Lubna Ahmed in the School of Food Science and Environmental Health at TU Dublin. The study is part of the UP4HEALTH project, a Biobased Industries Joint Undertaking Project funded by the European Union.
