Ireland’s Chief Health and Social Care Professions Officer Visits TU Dublin
In May 2023, the Irish Government appointed Fiona Steed as the country’s first Chief Health and Social Care Professions (HSCP) Officer in the Department of Health, a key strategic role that will provide leadership on policy direction and evidence-based expert advice for the HSCP policy agenda.
Ms Steed visited TU Dublin on 23 November, her first official visit to a University in Ireland since taking up her role. At the half-day event, organised by Professor John Doran, Dean of TU Dublin’s Faculty of Sciences and Health, Ms Steed spoke about her role and priorities, including the advancement of Advanced Practice within the HSCPs.
TU Dublin Heads of Discipline presented on our programmatic provision at undergraduate and graduate levels, research, challenges and opportunities in each of their disciplines. The HSCP disciplines discussed included Human Nutrition and Dietetics, Optometry, Ophthalmic Dispensing, Clinical Measurement Science, Social Care, and Medical Science. The discussion was attended by Heads of School and Heads of Discipline from the School of Biological, Health and Sports Sciences, School of Physics, Clinical and Optometric Sciences, and School of Social Sciences, Law and Education.
The event continued with a tour of clinical and laboratory facilities in the Central Quad during which Ms Steed met with staff and students and concluded with lunch in the Training Restaurant.
