TU Dublin Student Aaron Lowe Wins Prestigious Engineering Award
aron Rowe, a recent graduate of the M.Eng programme in Sustainable Infrastructure at TU Dublin, has won the Seán de Courcy Student Award at the Irish Concrete Society Awards 2022.
The Seán de Courcy Student Award is open to all students undertaking an accredited Master's and Degree programme of study in Civil and Structural engineering in Ireland, and this year shortlisted finalists included students from Munster Technological University, Trinity College Dublin and TU Dublin. The adjudicating panel, consisting of three Chartered Civil/Structural Engineers, was impressed with the significant amount of work and effort that each of the candidates had invested in their projects, the detailed analysis work undertaken, and the quality of presentation in the dissertations.
Aaron Rowe's project titled 'Simulating the hydration of cement using PHREEQC' encountered tough competition from competitors of third-level institutions. However, the adjudicators were impressed by its innovative material properties, technical understanding of the material concrete and timely focus on current industry demands relating to sustainability and carbon reduction.
Dr Niall Holmes, Head of Structural Engineering, School of Transport and Civil Engineering, supervised Aaron's winning project. Read more about the Irish Concrete Society Awards.
