Roadstone sponsor new concrete mixer
Mr. Thomas Holden, Technical Manager with Roadstone, recently visited the School of Transport & Civil Engineering in TU Dublin to present a new mixer to help the teaching of concrete technology for our students. The new mixer will help students better understand concrete technology as part of module laboratory activities and research projects at final year and Master’s level.
Thomas discussed the role of concrete in the ancient and modern worlds and its important in the everyday lives of all humanity. He emphasised that the teaching of concrete technology is vital to ensure current and future use is both suitable for its performance in infrastructure and to ensure it is as sustainable as possible. As the second most consumed material in the world, second only to water, concrete will continue to play an important role.
With over thirty years’ experience, Thomas addressed some of the issue around specification and advised soon to graduate students on the importance of using the right concrete for the application. He gave an insight into how Roadstone advises clients and specifiers on some of the alternatives to ensure suitability and cost effectiveness. The new mixer will support staff in demonstrating how concrete should be designed, manufactured, and taken care of upon delivery to site by employing suitable placing, compaction and finishing.
The School are very grateful for the continuing support provided by Roadstone and look forward to extending current research collaboration and employment opportunities for students following graduation.
