Prof. Fergal Boyle is a senior lecturer in the School of Mechanical and Design Engineering having joined DIT in 2000. He holds a bachelors degree, research masters and PhD in mechanical engineering from NUI, Galway. He delivers modules in Fluid Mechanics at undergraduate level and in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) at postgraduate level. His expertise is in fluid mechanics, CFD, and numerical modelling in general.

            The aim of his EU-funded PhD research was to develop a CFD algorithm for the numerical prediction of an advanced-propeller flowfield under general inflow conditions. The project results were disseminated through peer-reviewed international conference papers and through EU technical reports.

            Currently his research interests lie in the application of fluid-mechanics, CFD and numerical modelling in the fields of biomedical engineering and energy engineering having established a research group in these fields in TU Dublin in 2005. He has supervised several PhD students to completion, published in and acted as a reviewer for several international journals, and has acted as an expert evaluator for Enterprise Ireland, the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research, and the Croatian Science Foundation.
