With a background in Economics and a Masters Qualification in Regional and Urban Planning, Paul has more than twenty years work experience of planning in Ireland having worked as a professional planner in a number of Local Authorities and with two private planning consultancies prior to joining TU Dublin. Paul lectures on a range of undergraduate and postgraduate modules including Environmental Economics, Regional and Marine Planning, Development Management and Local Area Plan Project.

His research interests include planning practice and area plan preparation at all levels. He also has a MSc in Marine Spatial Planning and was a team member of the EPA funded Project on Developing an Integrated Policy Framework for Marine Spatial Planning in Ireland. Currently, Paul is a member of the European COST Action on Ocean Governance and he is completing a PhD in the University of Ulster on the role of the Community and Voluntary sector on Planning for Climate Change in Coastal Areas
