Orna Hanly is former Head of the Dublin School of Architecture, Technological University Dublin, Bolton Street and a Fellow of the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland.
Orna graduated with a Diploma in Architecture with Distinction from the College of Technology, Bolton Street in 1983. She was awarded a Bachelor in Architectural Science from Trinity College Dublin in 1983 and a Masters in Business Studies from the Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School, University College Dublin in 2008.
She practised as an architect with Gilroy McMahon Architects before establishing her own architectural and exhibition design practice, specialising in exhibition design and project management, designing a range of exhibitions including The Famine Museum in Stroketown Co Roscommon, The GAA Museum in Croke Park and the Irish EXPO Pavilion at Hanover.
She joined the Department of Architecture and Town Planning in the College of Technology, Bolton Street as a part time lecturer in 1987 and was appointed as a full time lecturer in 1994. She served as Year Head within the Diploma in Architecture and the Degree in Architecture programme until her appointment as Head of Department of Architecture and Urban Design in 2008. She was Head of the Dublin School of Architecture from 2012 to 2022.
Orna’s research interests are in the position of the architectural profession and the changing role of the architect in 21st Century.
