Dr Malachy Mathews is a Chartered Architectural Technologist, Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technology and Senior Lecturer in the Dublin School of Architecture at TU Dublin. He is module leader for the Building Information Modelling and takes a leading role in BIM development in the College of Engineering and Built Environment. Malachy supervises final year undergraduate architectural technology dissertations and masters research on the MSc in Applied Building Information and Management programme.
Having had a 30-year career that straddled both the design and construction industry’s, he brings unique insights into teaching. Malachy started full time lecturing in TU Dublin in 2007 and has overseen the move from 2d representation to 3d simulation in the Architectural Technology program and played a central role in the creation of Irelands first MSc in applied Building Information Modelling/Management.
Malachy was awarded a PhD from TU Dublin for a research thesis entitled: “A Hermeneutic Phenomenological Study into the impact of BIM on the Social Dynamics of the AEC professional in the Workplace” and has a side research interest in the synergies between BIM+Blockchain. He is a founder board member of ICAT (International Congress for Architectural Technology) and is the BIM Integration Advisor for IEBC (Integrated Engineering Blockchain Consortium)
Malachy is the WorldSkills Competition Skill Manager for Digital Construction for the Shanghai WorldSkills event which will take place in September 2021.
