Lorraine is a lecturer with practical experience in sustainable growing and landscape management.  She worked for a number of years in project management before returning to college as a mature student to study Horticulture at the Salesian College of Horticulture Warrenstown. She completed her MSc in Rural Environment Conservation Management at UCD and has been working as a lecturer in Horticulture in TU Dublin since 2016. She has a strong interest and working knowledge of food science research in plant fortification, fresh produce shelf life and soil science. She also contributed to the curriculum development of the BSc (Hons) Sustainable Timber Technology Programme.

Currently she is undertaking a study on mitigating the impact of abiotic plant stress through the use of organic soil amelioration, and since 2020, has been the Principal Investigator of the Leaf No Waste project based in TU Dublin. This requires management of a multidisciplinary team with expertise in horticulture, food science, packaging and business. Together this team are examining resilience in growing sustainable food crops. In addition, they are developing innovations that address food and plastic waste from field to fork.  This research is underpinned by the UN Sustainable Development Goal 12.3.  Leaf no Waste is supported by the Science Foundation Ireland under Grant No. 20/FIP/8934P. 

Lorraine looks forward to sharing her knowledge and experience and developing new skills in the Environmental Management discipline at the School of Architecture, Buildings and Environment.
