The Architecture of Creative Learning - Irish Pavilion EXPO DUBAI 2020
THE ARCHITECTURE OF CREATIVE LEARNING
Irish Pavilion EXPO DUBAI 2020
Gary A. Boyd + Brian Ward
An exhibition in the Irish Pavilion in Expo 2020 Dubai celebrates the innovation and creativity of Irish architects in the design of buildings for education globally.
The exhibiton was commissioned by the Department of Foreign Affairs. It was curated and designed by TU Dublin School of Architecture lecturer Dr Brian Ward and Dr Gary A. Boyd of Queens University Belfast, with information design by Zero-g.
The Architecture of Creative Learning presents nine projects conceived and built within diverse international cultural and physical contexts by seven Irish practices at home and abroad:
- Paul Dillon Architects;
- Donaghy + Dimond Architects;
- Grafton Architects;
- Heneghan Peng;
- McCullough Mulvin Architects;
- McGarry Ní Éanaigh Architects;
- O’Donnell + Tuomey;
Three themes present in these projects (conversation, construction and context) form the basis of a series of investigations through models by a number of younger architectural practices:
- Plattenbau Studio;
- Dún-na-dTuar;
- Jamie Whelan Architects;
- REIR;
The commissioned models are positioned above a landscape which, responding to the international reach of Irish architecture in education, imagines individual study desks combining to create both a collective field and a map of the world.
Siobhán Ní Éanaigh of McGarry Ní Éanaigh Architects and Colin Mac Suibhne of REIR both teach in the TU Dublin School of Architecture. REIR were assisted by TU Dublin M Arch student Helen McFadden in the construction of their exhibited models.
The exhibition will remain in place in Dubai until mid-March 2022.
