Robert has a BSc and MSc by Research from University College Dublin, and a PhD from the University of Bremen in Germany. Robert teaches modules on applied Artificial Intelligence including Deep Learning and Advanced Topics in Computational Intelligence, as well as supervises a number of taught masters and PhD students. Robert’s research interests are primarily in the areas of Dialogue Systems and more recently in the application of machine learning and deep learning techniques to structured data including text, sensor data streams and video. Robert is a Funded Investigator in the SFI funded ADAPT Research Centre and a Principle Investigator in the EI Funded CeADAR Centre where Robert has lead a number of industry lead Innovation Partnership Projects. Within the Adapt Centre Robert is the Industry Lead on the Digital Enhanced Engagement strand. Robert has supervised 3 PhD students to completion and currently supervises 8 PhD students and 3 research scientists and collaborates.
