Dr Michael Collins’s background is in Computer Science. He received a PhD in Computer Science from University College Dublin in 2010 after completing his research in the area of security in wireless sensor networks. He holds a MSc. in Computer Science from Trinity College Dublin (2000) and a BSc. in Computer Science and Software Engineering from Dublin Institute of Technology (1997). Michael is a Lecturer in Computer Science with extensive experience in industry and academia. Prior to joining the School of Computer Science, he worked as a Software Engineer for companies in Ireland and in the United States. He is the academic coordinator for international affairs in the School and a former chairperson and the original programme designer for the BSc. in Computer Science International programme (TU858). He is a class mentor and manages all Double Degree programmes with international partners and other standard international student and staff exchanges. Michael’s areas of research include Computer Science-Industry oriented pedagogy, Ubiquitous computing, Internet of Things, Software development mentorship and ethics in Computer Science. He has published at conferences and in journals and is a member of Technical Program Committees for various International Conferences. He is also a visiting academic at several universities in parts of Asia.
