We are pleased to announce the acceptance of our paper titled ""SafeRoute: A Safer Outdoor Navigation Algorithm with Smart Routing for People with Visual Impairment"" for presentation at the PETRA conference in June 2024. This paper addresses the issue of unsafe suggested routes for individuals with visual impairments. Our SafeRoute algorithm prioritizes safety over distance, providing recommendations for a safer route. Unlike traditional methods that focus solely on finding the shortest path, our algorithm aims to reduce the risk associated with the suggested route based on user preferences.

The authors of this paper are Fatma Eltaher, a Ph.D. student, along with Dr Luis Miralles, Dr Jane Courtney, and Dr Susan Mckeever.

The PETRA conference, PETRA conference focusing on computational and engineering approaches to enhance human performance and improve quality of life, provides an interdisciplinary platform. It explores applications in various settings, including the workplace, home, public spaces, and urban environments.

We anticipate that Fatma's participation in the conference will contribute to her expertise and provide opportunities to share her valuable insights with fellow researchers. We believe that this collaboration will enhance the defence of her upcoming Ph.D. dissertation.
