Scholarship for women in maths to be renewed in 2024/25

Published: 20 May, 2024

The School of Mathematics & Statistics is delighted to announce that the Kastus Scholarship for Women in Mathematics & Statistics will be offered by the School of Mathematics & Statistics once again in 2024/25.

The School of Mathematics & Statistics is continuing its valued partnership with Kastus and will, once again, offer a scholarship to a female undergraduate studying its full-time undergraduate programme, TU874 BSc (Hons) Mathematical Sciences.  The scholarship aims to support women in the challenges they face pursuing their interests and ambitions in mathematics and statistics.  The development of scholarships and other supports are key elements of the School's commitment to gender equality, recognised through its Athena Swan Bronze award.

The Kastus scholars are champions of female success in mathematics and statistics and the wealth of opportunities for women in these disciplines.  STEM, particularly mathematics, opens the door to a huge range of fascinating and rewarding careers in dynamic sectors such as ICT, data analysis, finance, and scientific research and development. Ensuring everyone can see themselves in mathematics is thus an important part of equality and inclusion throughout society and the workplace.

The School is delighted that, through Kastus's support, it is again able to offer the Kastus Scholarship for Women in Mathematics & Statistics. The School is fully committed to championing equality, diversity, and inclusion in mathematics and statistics and hopes to make a positive difference through such interventions.

* The Kastus Scholarship for Women in Mathematics & Statistics was first awarded in 2023/24 to Megan Dooley, a second-year student.  If you want to read about her experience, please visit here.
