Mathematics students experience placement at New Ireland Assurance
We were delighted to visit New Ireland Assurance this week to check in on four of our full-time undergraduate students who, as part of their degree programme, are currently working there.
It was a very enjoyable visit and the students and their supervisors were enthused about their projects and the fantastic experience of working at one of Ireland's leading companies in the financial sector. New Ireland provides insurance, pension and investment solutions to individuals and companies and is very proud of its Irish history.
Working for top companies and gaining experience of working life and the many, many sectors in which mathematics not only plays a key role but is in high demand is one of the main features of our programmes. All students of the School's full-time undergraduate programme, TU874 Mathematical Sciences, have the opportunity to undertake a work placement in the third year of their programme. This real-world experience of applying their mathematical learning in the workplace equips them to immediately enter the thriving sectors of the economy in which statisticians and mathematicians are most in demand: e.g. ICT, the financial sector, global research and development, logistics, education and the public service. Throughout their studies, our students develop polished presentation and communication skills, mathematical modelling skills applied to real-world problems and essential employability skills which, combined with the work placement, make them employment ready.
We are sure our students will enjoy the rest of their placement with New Ireland Assurance and would like to thank all our partner companies for their support of our ongoing relationships.
