Mathematics students enjoy work placements at Davy
Students of the School's full-time undergraduate programme, TU874 Mathematical Sciences, undertake a work placement in the third year of their programme. The work placement during the second semester is a fabulous opportunity for students to gain real-world experience in the workplace and apply their mathematical learning in the sectors in which statisticians and mathematicians are most in demand. Students prepare for work placement throughout their studies learning presentation and communication skills, mathematical modelling of real-world problems and essential employability skills.
The School has work placement partners across many sectors including ICT, the financial sector, logistics, education and the public service. Davy is one such partner and a leading firm in wealth management. Three of the School's students have been working at Davy since January and recently two members of academic staff met with them and their internal supervisor to check on their progress, to learn about their experiences so far and to provide feedback.
Their work placement in a sector-leading company will equip these students with valuable experience and give them an additional string to their bow when it comes to finding and forging their own careers. We wish them all the best with the remainder of their work at Davy.
