Mathematics & Statistics is top team at Faculty Showcase

Published: 20 Jun, 2024

The academic year was rounded off with a magnificent victory by the School quiz team at the Faculty Showcase event (with thanks to Dympna O'Sullivan, Academic Lead of the Digital Futures Research Hub, for joining the mathematicians for a day!).

It has been an exciting and impressive year of achievement for the School of Mathematics & Statistics in 2023/24 and it rounded off with an impressive victory in the fun, end-of-year quiz organised as part of the Faculty Showcase.

The quiz was a light-hearted event as part of the showcase, which highlighted some of the work taking place in the Faculty and followed an address by the Dean thanking all staff for their contributions throughout the year.  John Butler also presented his work to colleagues at the Faculty Showcase, with an entertaining talk entitled Connecting Neuroscience and Machine Learning: Don’t Get Eaten by the Tiger.

The School of Mathematics & Statistics would like to acknowledge the achievements of its students and colleagues in 2023/24 which have included: the award of the Kastus Scholarship for Women in Mathematics & Statistics; outreach events including Scifest, open days and Mathsweek; research seminars, papers and dissemination; graduations and the Hamilton Prize; and two important awards for contributions to teaching, learning and mathematical understanding.

We wish everyone a great summer and look forward to welcoming our new students in the autumn.
