Mathematics & Statistics at the TU Dublin Open Day
On Saturday 22 April, Central Quad was open to anyone interested in studying the wide range of programmes available on that campus. It was part of a series of TU Dublin Open Days not only in Grangegorman but also on our Tallaght, Blanchardstown, Aungier Street locations.
The open day was very well attended and lecturers from the School of Mathematics & Statistics were on hand to talk to prospective students about the wide range of opportunities to study mathematics and statistics at TU Dublin. Students learned about our full-time undergraduate programmes which are specifically designed to equip the mathematicians of the future with the skills required to have interesting and challenging careers in business and industry. Graduates of our programmes have very practical skills (having developed career-focused employability skills and engaged in a three- to six-month work placement as part of their studies) and enter a wide variety of careers in employment sectors ranging from finance to technology and ICT, from pharmaceutical and healthcare to teaching and the public service.
In addition, it was an opportunity to showcase the fabulous, purpose-built Grangegorman facilities with their modern, technologically-enhanced classrooms, lecture theatres and computer laboratories. Representatives of the access and student support services were on hand to discuss student life and the practicalities of the transition to university and third-level education. The Mathematics Learning Centre which is available to support all TU Dublin students in the mathematical elements of their programme is an important part of this support.
The transition to university, the next steps in further study or the return to education are important decisions and we hope that the open days provide information and an insight into life at TU Dublin: its atmosphere, its students, its facilities and its opportunities. However, our staff are always available to talk about our programmes - the ladder of qualifications which we provide from part-time higher certificates, through full-time degrees to continuing professional development courses for skills needs and postgraduate study.
