Launch: BSc Mathematics & Statistics for Data Science

Published: 1 Jan, 2025

The School of Mathematics & Statistics is excited to launch a new degree option: TU873 BSc (Hons) Mathematics & Statistics for Data Science.

From 2025, the School of Mathematics & Statistics, TU Dublin is making changes to the full-time undergraduate programmes it offers through the CAO.  The changes can be found on the CAO alert list and include:

These are very exciting changes and the new award, BSc Mathematics & Statistics for Data Science, reflects the demand for data analysts and data scientists who have a deep understanding of the statistical methods and models used in data and data visualisation.  These mathematical and statistical tools are fundamental to the evidence-based insights and decision-making needed in finance, business and industry.  Our programme ensures that graduates have a strong understanding not only of how to analyse and visualise data but why these tools are used, how they are applied in complex contexts and, importantly, in which contexts each is applicable.

In addition, all our programmes are practical, ensuring students have the opportunity to implement their learning in real-life scenarios and include a six-month work placement in an appropriate sector.  Students develop the communication, technology, software and presentation skills required not only to present their knowledge but also to develop their careers.  A capstone final-year project provides graduates with a true insight into advanced applications and ensures they are career-ready.

For more information about either of these programmes, contact the School through our information page or the Head of Discipline responsible Dr Carl Sullivan.
