Highly successful IMS Annual Meeting 2022 closes
The 2022 annual meeting of the Irish Mathematical Society closed on Friday 2 September after two days of fascinating talks, thought-provoking interactions and enjoyable opportunities to meet old friends.
The meeting was a great success and enjoyed by all delegates. There was a wide array of talks including particularly interesting discussions of Athena Swan in the Mathematical Sciences and the experiences of mathematics lecturers teaching online during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The President of the Irish Mathematical Society, Tom Carroll said:
The meeting was very well attended and it was a pleasure to see so many familiar faces again and some new faces too. The talks were absolutely super and catered to everyone's interests - a wholehearted word of appreciation to all speakers for making their work accessible to a general audience. And it was such a pleasure to see TU Dublin's beautiful new Grangegorman campus.
A key outcome of the AGM was the formal establishment of the Irish Committee for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in Mathematics, a subcommittee of the IMS, with Romina Gaburro as chair. The work of this committee is both important and timely - it has natural synergies with the Mathematical Sciences Athena SWAN Network [of which TU Dublin is a member].
The conference schedule and details of the meeting can still be found here.
