Celebrations for our mathematics graduates at the October conferring
The School of Mathematics & Statistics was delighted to present its graduates at the recent autumn graduation ceremony for the Faculty of Computing, Digital and Data. The ceremony took place on Thursday 31 October and graduates celebrated their success in the company of friends and family.
The School of Mathematics & Statistics offers its warmest congratulations to all its graduates who recently received their awards at the TU Dublin graduation ceremony held on our Tallaght campus. Graduates included students who had successfully completed the part-time Higher Certificate in Mathematics, the Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Mathematics and our flagship, full-time undergraduate programme TU874 BSc Mathematical Sciences. We recognise the hard work and resilience of all of our graduates and look forward to following some of their future progress as they either embark on careers in technology, business and finance, logistics, statistics and data science or, if like many, they choose to continue their learning journey and embark upon postgraduate study, postgraduate research or one of our continuing professional development programmes.
Graduation day was also an opportunity to recognise the talent of our graduates and, following the ceremony, the Head of School, Dr Chris Hills presented two of our graduates with medals. Dara Vince (pictured on the left below), who was earlier cited for a TU Dublin Student Excellence Award, was awarded the John M Forde medal for Mathematical Sciences; Coalán Harvey (pictured on the right below) was awarded the Michael Tuite medal for Mathematics.
The graduation ceremony is also an important and meaningful occasion for families. The School was honoured to have the opportunity to award the posthumous degree of Doctor of Philosophy to Noel White - a graduate of our programmes, who had a long and close association with the TU Dublin, but sadly died before he could submit his doctoral thesis, supervised by Emeritus Professor, Prof Brendan Goldsmith.
Noel's life was exemplified by hard work, a love of learning and most of all an enduring interest and dedication to mathematics. The posthumous award was received by Karen White his daughter on behalf of the family, many of who were able to join us in remembering and honouring Noel's achievements.
The School is extremely proud of all its students and their fantastic achievements.
