Stephen Sheridan is currently Head of Discipline in Informatics at the Technological University Dublin (TU Dublin). Stephen has been involved in the design and delivery of a wide range of Computer Science programmes at TU Dublin and supervises student projects in Computer Science and Cyber Security at undergraduate and postgraduate level. Stephen’s current teaching duties include First Year Programming, Derivation of Algorithms, Computational Intelligence and Research Skills and Ethics. Stephen is also the course coordinator and project coordinator for year four computing (TU883/TU860) on the Blanchardstown Campus. His current research interests are in the area of data exfiltration and in particular the use of DNS as a covert channel. The recent focus of Stephen's research work in data Exfiltration over DNS has been in the application of machine learning techniques to detect temporal patterns in DNS traffic that are often a sign of command and control activity and the analysis of DNS query strings using statistical techniques in order to identify useful features that can help detect data exfiltration.
