Dr Chris Hills has been the Head of the School of Mathematics & Statistics (formerly School of Mathematical Sciences) since 2010. Previously he was Darby Fellow in Applied Mathematics at Lincoln College, University of Oxford (1999-2002); Lecturer in Applied Mathematics at the University of Exeter (2002-2005). He moved to Ireland in 2005 and became a lecturer in the School of Mathematical Sciences and was appointed Assistant Head of School in 2008.
Chris’s research interests focus on fluid mechanics and, in particular, on the evolution, topology and flow phenomena of slow viscous flows and viscous eddies and the stability of rotationally-driven flows. He read the Mathematical Tripos at the University of Cambridge and stayed at the University of Cambridge to take Part III and to read for his doctorate in rotationally-driven viscous flows under the supervision of Prof H K Moffatt, FRS.
Chris served on the RIA Committee for Mathematical Sciences and is a member of the Irish Mathematical Society.
