Amanda O'Farrell has been a lecturer in TU Dublin for 19 years. She has taught at both undergrad and postgrad levels, in subjects such as programming, software methodologies, networking and computer architecture.  In response to the low numbers of female students studying Computer Science at third-level, four years ago, Amanda founded the 'Become An IT Girl' initiative which aimed to encourage second level girls to consider a career in technology. As part of this initiative yearly events are organised, which takes the format of panel discussions with industry role models, designathons and coding camps.  Amanda is a member of CSinc, which is a voluntary group of lecturers from TU Dublin that do outreach camps across Southern Ireland. The CSinc team want to reach all types of schools, school levels and locations. Amanda is also a member of INGENIC (Irish Network for Gender Equality in Computing) and WITU (Women in Technology United). Amanda's current research interests concentrate on gender diversity in Computer Science.
