NVIDIA Fundamentals of Deep Learning Workshop - 14th March 2023
Tuesday 14th March the School of Enterprise Computing and Digital Transformation ran a full day workshop on NVIDIA Fundamentals of Deep Learning from the NVIDIA Deep learning Institute (DLI) led by Dr Keith Quille who is an NVIDIA Certified Instructor and University Ambassador. This course ran from 9am to 5pm and students attending covered the following areas:
- Learn the fundamental techniques and tools required to train a deep learning model.
- Gain experience with common deep learning data types and model architectures.
- Enhance datasets through data augmentation to improve model accuracy.
- Leverage transfer learning between models to achieve efficient results with less data and computation.
- Build confidence to take on your own project with a modern deep learning framework.
In this workshop, students learnt how deep learning works through hands-on exercises in computer vision and natural language processing. They trained deep learning models from scratch, learning tools and tricks to achieve highly accurate results. They also learnt to leverage freely available, state-of-the-art pre-trained models to save time and get deep learning applications up and running quickly. Successful students on the day got a NVIDIA certificate.
The attendance at this event was unprecedented with over 50 students attending in person and ten students attending online. The students comprised of first year to fourth year undergraduate students as well as students from out HCAIM master’s programme. The feedback from this event was exceptional and the school plans to run this again next year. This event was and supported by Dr. Rajesh Jaiswal and Dr. Fernando Perez.
