Students from the School of Business Technology, Retail & Supply Chain gather for Sustainability Insights at WITU organised event
Last Tuesday, students, alumni and staff from the School of Business Technology, Retail and Supply Chain attended a ‘Lunch & Learn’ session during the N-TUTOR week of activities. The focus of the event was “Preparing for a more Sustainable Future” and was organised by WITU (Women in Technology United).
Among the featured speakers was TU Dublin product design student, Shannen Smith Bore, who showcased her innovative soil analysis device and app, AGRILITE for fertilizer optimisation in sustainable farming. Shannen spoke to the students about the importance of being active in TU Dublin student societies and competitions, such as, TU Dublin Enactus Society, GrowthHub and BoltonTrust.
Entrepreneur, Sarah Fliessbach, founder of Shareclub, a circular packaging solution, shared her experience of setting up her own sustainability-focused business in Ireland. Sarah highlighted Ireland's status as one of the largest per capita producers of plastic waste packaging in the EU, with a staggering 22,000 takeaway cups disposed of every hour.
Dr. Aimee Byrne, Sustainability Education Lead at TU Dublin, guided the students through a workshop on how to find their own voice in sustainability. Aimee assisted the students in identifying personal and professional climate actions that aligned with their lifestyle and their passions.
Lecturer, Farrah Higgins, spoke of co-curricular activities like CodeFirstGirls and international competitions like EIA, World Skills and CaseIT which are all incredible opportunities supported by TU Dublin available to our students.
The event showcased the impressive contributions of the next generation of women in tech on climate action. We would like to thank all our students, alumni and staff for taking part in this event and for sharing their inspirational stories.
