Dr Ana Maria Fernandes is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the School of Hospitality Management & Tourism in TU Dublin. She is currently working in the FESTSPACE (festivals, events, and inclusive public space) project, funded by HERA (Humanities in the European Research Area), since September 2020. In 2017, Ana completed her PhD in Human Geography at the State University of Campinas, São Paulo (Brazil), where she analyzed the integrated and contradictory relationship between tourism, cultural heritage and urban regeneration in the context of the mega-events held by the contemporary cities, such as Barcelona and Rio de Janeiro. During her PhD studies she had a doctoral internship at the University of Barcelona, Spain (2013-2014), at the Human Geography Department. Between 2013 – 2020 Ana was a Professor at the Schools of Tourism, Geography, and Visual Arts at the Pontifical Catholic University of Campinas, São Paulo, Brazil. Ana's main teaching and research areas are: tourism; events/mega events and urban regeneration of the public spaces; cultural heritage and urban planning & city branding.
