Shirley is an Assistant Lecturer within the School of Social Sciences, Law and Education in TU Dublin based in the Blanchardstown Campus. She holds an MA in Learning and Teaching and BA (Hons) in Youth Work from Dundalk IT. She taught on the Youth Work programme in Dundalk IT prior to joining TU Dublin in 2018.

Shirley is part of the programme team on Community Development and Youth Work Programme and is an active youth worker and passionate advocate for young people. Her areas of expertise are youth work practice based subjects, reflective practice, fieldwork, challenging behaviour and she likes to keep up to date with developments and emerging issues in the Youth Work sector.

Shirley is currently the Southern co-chair of NSETS (North South Education Training Standards body for Youth Work), Chairperson of the voluntary board of Youth Work Ireland Cavan Monaghan, a convening member of the Youth Work Educators forum, a member of PALCYW (the Professional Association of Lecturers in Community and Youth Work) and an active volunteer in Barretstown.
