Sheila has been involved in the voluntary and community sector in both a voluntary and professional capacity. This has included working within the homeless services, with children and adults with an intellectual disability and supporting learning with children living in direct provision. She has also organised and facilitated workshops on areas including sustainable development and provided support to volunteer groups in Ireland and overseas. From 2012 to 2018 she was a board member and then chair of the board of Development Perspectives (DP), a Development Education NGO, which works with partners in Ireland and around the world with the aim of tackling poverty, inequality and climate change through transformative education and active global citizenship.
Teaching Areas
Teaching on the Community Development and Youth Work programme, and the Applied Social Care in Social Studies programmes.
Introduction to Psychology, Psychology Across the Lifespan, Social Psychology, Psychological Perspectives on Development, Global Development, Undergraduate Research Supervision.
Research Interests:
Psychology and SDGs, attachment, anti-racism and wellbeing, development education, SDGs.
