Profile
Stella Downey is a lecturer on the BA Photography and BA Film & Broadcasting, across undergraduate programmes in the School of Media, TU Dublin.
In addition to teaching, she is interested in the craft of storytelling across all media and story types: fact or fiction; print, still image, audio, cinematic, or interactive. Her interests are characterisation and narrative structures.
Keenly aware of the evolving broad media landscape, she is concerned with issues of media control, use and misuse, reach and influence, and the consequential socio-political implications. She is also interested in the changing technologies of media production, the resulting evolution in production practices and workflows, the proliferation of distribution platforms, and how School of Media students can better be prepared for an industry responding to all these factors.
Stella has been involved in various projects and conferences over the years. A member of the Royal Television Society (RTS) Republic of Ireland Committee since 2013, Stella is currently Hon. Secretary of the ROI branch.
