Overview:
The Certificate in Portfolio Preparation for the Screen Industry has been developed by the School of Media at TU Dublin, Screen Ireland and TU Dublin Enterprise Academy, in consultation with colleagues in the Screen Industries in Ireland. It is co-funded by Screen Ireland and by Cultural & Creative Industries Skillnet via the European Social Fund (the Government of Ireland, the European Union, and network companies).
The programme aims to support learners from the screen sectors in preparing an application for Recognition of Prior Experiential Learning (RPEL). In particular, it has been developed to offer scaffolded support for learners preparing to apply for the new TU Dublin/Screen Ireland BA (Hons) in Screen Industry Practice (Level 8) programme at TU Dublin, starting in January 2025. While the learning on the programme will greatly assist in making an application for the BA, it should be noted that successful completion of the module will not automatically guarantee entry.
Who should apply?
Learners preparing an application for Recognition of Prior Learning, particularly those intending to apply for TU171 BA (Hons) in Screen Industry Practice.
What are the entry requirements?
Minimum of 7 years ‘work experience in the screen industries
Evidence of volume, depth and breadth of experience, with reference to the relevant Competency Framework or equivalent.
What is the contact-time commitment?
Two in-person workshops or 4 online workshops
Weekly online tutorials
Approximately 10-12 hours of contact time in total
When does it start?
The programme has rolling start dates. The next start dates are:
Saturday 23rd November (in person 11:00-15:30)
or
Tuesday 26th and Thursday 28th November (online 19:00-20:45, participants should attend both online sessions)
What will I be able to do if I successfully complete the module?
- Describe requirements and components of a RPEL portfolio in TU Dublin
- Identify significant workplace learning milestones in your career
- Map your own learning to relevant industry Competency Framework
- Develop and write a personal statement
- Articulate your own motivation for applying for further qualification
- Write clearly and objectively about your own experience
- Compile a portfolio of evidence of your prior learning
- Select and present representative examples from your portfolio
What does it cost?
The fee for the course is €531, however thanks to our Screen Ireland and Creative and Cultural Industries Skillnet partnership, we can offer a CCIS membership rate of €100.

The form collects general information and also asks you to address the following, each in around 200 words:

- Why are you interested in pursuing further education?
- What are you most proud of in your career in the screen industries?
When you submit the form, you will be prompted to email a full CV to the School.
Successful TU Dublin applicants will be directed to Cultural & Creative Industries Skillnet to submit an application for their Membership rate
