Dr Seán Ó Cadhla is a Lecturer in the Irish Language and Accountancy at Technological University Dublin. He holds a PhD in Ethnomusicology on the subject of singer/audience interactions and the consequential manipulation of ballad narrative to accommodate respective cultural expectations. His research interests are Irish Republicanism and Irish traditional singing, with specific reference to the transformative role of the narrative ballad in society. His most recently published academic works focus on the genre of Irish Republican song, and how the ideological complexities of physical-force Irish Republicanism are reflected via the medium of the traditional ballad.
