Dr Mirna Vohnsen holds a PhD on the representation of Jewishness in Argentine cinema from University College Dublin. Her thesis was awarded a publication prize and published as a monograph titled Portrayals of Jews in Contemporary Argentine Cinema: Rethinking Argentinidad in 2019. In the same year, she joined TU Dublin where she teaches literary and critical theory, Latin American and Spanish literature and culture, Argentine cinema, intercultural studies as well as Spanish language. She also supervises final year dissertations.
Mirna specializes in contemporary Latin American film, with a particular interest in ethnicity, cultural identity, gender representation and cultural memory. She co-authored Eva Perón: A Reference Guide to Her Life and Works (2021), co-edited Contemporary Argentine Women Filmmakers (2023) and published her research in academic and non-academic journals, as well as edited collections. She is currently working on a book chapter on Jewish women and Judaism in twentieth-century Argentine popular cinema.
Mirna is the book review editor for Latin American Jewish Studies, and a referee for Bulletin of Hispanic Studies, Bulletin of Spanish Studies and Latin American Jewish Studies. She is the vice-president of the Association for Women in Spanish and Portuguese Studies, a member of the advisory board for the Journal for Religion, Film and Media and a member of the Association of Hispanists of Great Britain and Ireland; the Latin American Jewish Studies Association; the Latin American Studies Association; Red de Investigadores sobre Cine Latinoamericano and Red de Investigación del Audiovisual hecho por Mujeres en América Latina.
As a strong supporter of the internationalization of higher education, from 2021 to 2023 Mirna was the Erasmus academic coordinator for the incoming Spanish students and lecturers to Language Studies at TU Dublin.
