Dr Geraldine Grogan studied German and History at Trinity College Dublin, where she also completed her PhD in Germanic Studies under the supervision of Prof Eda Sagarra.  

At TU Dublin she has taught German language, literature, history and culture. She has also taught modules on totalitarianism and European studies, and has been course co-ordinator for the National Certificate in Heritage Studies and the BA in European Studies.  

Her main research area has been the relationship between Ireland and Germany in the nineteenth century, particularly the role played by Daniel O’Connell, who is the focus of most of her publications to date. She has received research funding from both the DAAD and the German Historical Institute London. Her current research focusses on Irish experiences of Germany in the early twentieth century.
