Fiona attended University College Cork and received a BA Hons in French and German with Italian in 1983. She then worked as a tutor at the Université de Haute-Bretagne Rennes 2 France
teaching English as a Foreign Language to Undergraduate and Further Education
students and at the same time studying for the following degrees:
- Licence ès lettres : sciences du langage (linguistics) at Université de Haute- Bretagne Rennes 2, France. (1984)
- Maîtrise ès lettres : phonologie at Université de Haute-Bretagne Rennes 2 (1985)
Fiona studied commercial French with the Chambre de Commerce de Paris while working for Iprodex a filial of Yves Rocher as a marketing assistant, where her duties included travel to France and Germany. Following this she travelled to Italy where she was offered a teaching post at Università degli Studi di Sassari in Italy
Teaching areas include French, Italian and Italian Culture, English as a Foreign Language and English for Academic Purposes for Erasmus, ESOl and TU Dublin students. Fiona also has an interest in Academic Writing and Critical Skills Development. Fiona has taught a module in ‘Teaching English as a Foreign Language’ to students of an Applied Languages degree.Fiona’s main interests are in language, travel and intercultural exchange. She is a member of Intermove (cofunded by Erasmus+) having completed their workshop 2 years ago with University of Limerick. Fiona has travelled to partner institutions such as the University of Valladolid with the Socrates staff mobility programme, and served on the Academic Council as an elected staff representative for 2 years.
