Andrea Basquille is a graduate of TU Dublin Conservatoire’s BMus (Performance) and holds a Masters qualification in Theatre Directing from East 15 Acting School, London.

Andrea’s research interests include musical theatre, opera, and audience engagement.  Her undergraduate dissertation (2011), The Use of Popular Music Styles in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, explored the integration of contemporary musical genres in musical theatre.  Her master’s research (2014), The Role of the Director in Making Opera Appeal to a Wider Audience, examined strategies for expanding the accessibility and engagement of opera for modern audiences.

Andrea has worked extensively with TU Dublin Conservatoire in both directing and producing roles across a range of opera and drama productions. These include Orpheus in the Underworld, Amahl and the Night Visitors, A Terrible Beauty, Le Nozze di Figaro, Susanna, The Half Promised Land, Girls Like That, The Panel, Grimm Tales, Love and Information, and Second Person Narrative.

She has a particular interest in opera and musical theatre direction, having led the end-of-year opera scenes for the MMus course at the Royal Scottish Conservatoire in 2015.  She is also a founding member of Dublin Youth Opera Company, where she devised and directed two innovative ‘jukebox operas’—Thicker than Water and Big Brother—which both toured Ireland. In 2019, she directed Adam Gwon’s musical Ordinary Days for The Rising Theatre Company at Smock Alley Theatre.

She is also a co-founder of Trilling Trilling Productions, a company dedicated to presenting works inspired by the life and literature of James Joyce. Notable productions include Ulysses: An Opera by composer Eric Sweeney, presented as a concert performance in 2018, and Twelve Songs and a Tilly, staged in 2020 and 2024.

As a freelance theatre director, Andrea has spent over fifteen years directing productions and teaching drama, singing, and dance across various educational settings, including primary and secondary schools, theatre schools, and language institutions.
