Eoghan began playing trumpet with the Artane Boys Band. He then attended the DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama for a Bachelor of Music degree, studying with Eamonn Nolan. After several years of freelance playing, and working as the Orchestra Director in Loreto College, St. Stephen’s Green, he moved to Denmark to complete a Masters in Music at the Royal Academy of Music, Aarhus, with Prof. Kristian Steenstrup.
Since returning to Dublin, he has been working as a freelance player, performing with the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra, RTÉ Concert Orchestra, Ulster Orchestra, Irish National Opera, and the Orchestra of the Wexford Festival Opera, as well as recording work for T.V., film and radio. Eoghan has also played and recorded with a diverse number of acts, including the band Ham Sandwich, and Mick Flannery & Susan O’Neill.
He has been teaching trumpet at the TU Dublin Conservatoire since 2020. His teaching method utilises the Song and Wind approach, through which he was taught during his study with Prof. Kristian Steenstrup. With this approach, students develop the creation of a strong musical message in their playing, the Song, combined with techniques for breathing efficiently, fully and freely, the Wind.
