Since finishing his classical music degree in his native city of Waterford under Eric Sweeney, Brendan has gone on to be one of the most versatile and in demand musicians of his generation. A regular soloist with the RTE Concert Orchestra, he has also performed with the National Symphony Orchestra, BBC Concert Orchestra, Ulster Orchestra, Irish National Opera, Irish Chamber Orchestra and Wexford Festival Opera. He has performed and recorded with several Irish and International jazz luminaries including Louis Stewart, Noel Kelehan, Kenny Wheeler, Cormac Kenevey, Mike Nielsen, Ronan Guilfoyle, Chucho Valdes, Kurt Elling, John Scofield and Joey Baron.
He has also performed with artists as diverse as Jack Jones, Shirley Bassey, Colm Wilkinson, Kenny Rogers, Rita Coolidge, Camille O’Sullivan, Ute Lemper, Rebecca Storm, Martin Hayes, The Temptations, The Four Tops and Idina Menzel. He is a founder member of The Irish Youth Jazz Orchestra, The Irish Youth Wind Ensemble, the Irish Jazz Orchestra and the New Irish Jazz Orchestra. He is currently Musical Director of the Dublin City Jazz Orchestra.
He has recorded several jazz albums both as a leader and group member and has been involved in a number of crossover/ethnic recording projects. He has worked in professional theatre since his early teens and has toured the UK, Europe and North America with Riverdance the Show.
In the mid-1990s, he won scholarships to attend the prestigious Banff Centre for the Fine Arts (Canada). In 2018, Brendan became a 1st class honours graduate of Cork School of Music (MTU) Peformance Masters programme, taking first prize that year. He has previously lectured in saxophone and clarinet in WIT, Cork School of Music, Clongowes Wood College and Castleknock College. He has also been an external examiner to the Royal Irish Academy of Music and Cork School of Music.
