Antonio Cafolla is proud to be a former student of DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama where he now lectures in saxophone and clarinet in the Department of Orchestral studies. He holds an Honours B.A. Degree (Music) from Maynooth University and an L.T.C.L. from Trinity College of Music, London. As a student of Tim Hanafin he was a founding member of both the DIT Big Band and the DIT Saxophone Quartet. He was also a member of the Irish Youth Jazz Orchestra with prominent trombonist Bobby Lamb as director.

He has participated in many classical and jazz masterclasses, most notably at the Brereton Summer School in Salzburg, Austria with saxophonist Eugene Rousseau from Indiana University. He has also studied privately with French saxophonist Jean-Yves Fourmeau.

He studied conducting at the Royal Irish Academy of Music. A versatile performer, he plays in a variety of styles and is very much in demand as a session player throughout Ireland. He has made numerous recordings and appearances on RTE television as well as performing in theatres and concert halls throughout the country as both an ensemble player and featured soloist. He has also performed in the UK, Italy and America and is a member of the Clarinet and Saxophone Society of Great Britain.

He lists Orchestration, Jazz History and Music Technology among his many interests and has in recent years completed the U.C.L.A. Scoring for TV and Film composers programme with funding from Screen Training Ireland.

He is currently researching material on the French classical saxophone tradition for a masters degree and has attended the 13th Gap Saxophone University – International Summer School in France as an observer with funding from DIT. This opportunity has in turn led recently to further observation of Claude Delangles’ saxophone class at the Paris Conservatoire.
