Barbara Murray

Barbara Murray holds a Masters of Music in Performance and Related Studies from the University of London.
She has studied with Irish pianists Florence Ryan and Philip Martin and with Israeli pianist David Dolan at the Guildhall School of Music in London. As a student she also participated in masterclasses and was the recipient of many prizes and bursary awards for her playing.
Barbara is currently a Lecturer within the Keyboard Department here at the Conservatoire, TU Dublin and is a tutor of performance at the National University of Ireland, Maynooth.
Barbara has much experience as a performer and over the years performed as a soloist and as a member of a chamber group both across Ireland and abroad. In addition, she has worked with larger ensembles in theatrical and orchestral projects.
As a teacher Barbara’s students have achieved many successes at examinations and competitions and a large number of her students have gone on to enjoy professional careers as musicians. In the area of academic music Barbara has lectured on music history, analysis and theoretical subjects at ‘Mater Dei Institute of Education, Dublin City University ‘ and has researched and presented papers and workshops on the ’Psychology of Performance and Teaching ‘, ‘Managing Performance Anxiety ‘, ‘The language of Music ‘ alongside other related topics at various universities and conferences .
Barbara is a highly experienced examiner having worked as a local centre examiner for the Royal Irish Academy of Music, Dublin for many years and has examined both third level and junior students both here at TU and at other colleges as an extern examiner. She has also adjudicated , given piano masterclasses and supervised graduates in their research within the field of music education.
Aside from her professional work as a Pianist, Barbara is involved in many other areas of music making as she plays cello, sings, composes ,has an interest in music technology and is actively engaged in the area of Christian Worship Music.
