Lecturer in Piano

Ann Heneghan's early musical training was at the College of Music (now DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama), where she studied piano with her parents, Frank and Ann Heneghan, and violin with Brian McNamara.  She qualified professionally in both instruments, and at the age of seventeen, became the first Irish person ever to have gained a Fellowship from Trinity College London in two separate instruments. She then won a Dutch Government Scholarship to study at the Royal Conservatory in the Hague, where she obtained a Recital Diploma under Davina van Wely.  On her return to Ireland, she enrolled in the Master of Arts degree in Music at the National University of Ireland, Maynooth, graduating a year later with First Class Honours.

Ann has given many recitals, including two in the NCH Field Room, and has performed on RTE television and radio.  She won thirteen first prizes at Feis Ceoil and also obtained first prizes from several other music festivals and examination bodies, including the ABRSM.
Ann has been a lecturer in the keyboard department in the Conservatory of Music and Drama since 1990, and has taught piano, musicianship, and academic writing skills.

In addition to her music qualifications, she holds a Master of Education degree in Applied Linguistics, an Advanced Diploma in Language and Literacy, and a Bachelor of Arts in Language Studies (combining English and French), all from the Open University in Milton Keynes. She is an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists.
